Mildred Craven Bloedorn, resident of Kailua-Kona, HI and longtime Fort Morgan resident, died on May 13, 2012, Mother's Day. She was 89. Mrs. Bloedorn was born in Sacramento, CA on February 1, 1923 to Earl Ellsworth and Ella May Craven. While she was an infant, her family moved to Glendale, CA, where she spent her childhood, graduating from Herbert Hoover High Sch ool in 1940. She received her B.A. from Pomona College, Claremont CA, in 1944. While there she met John H. Bloedorn Jr., and they married on December 31, 1943. The couple lived in California during their early married years while Mr. Bloedorn served in the Navy and Mrs. Bloedorn worked as a nursery school teacher. In 1946 the couple moved to Fort Moran, CO, Mr. Bloedorn's home town, so he could work for his father at the Farmers State Bank. Mrs. Bloedorn was an active citizen of Fort Morgan. Her early childhood education background led her, as a member of Arcturus Club, to introduce kindergartens to Fort Morgan, first in a privately run school, and then in the public schools. She had leading roles in all of the organizations of which she was a member, including the Sherman School PTA, the Campfire Girls, the United Way, the United Presbyterian Church of Fort Morgan, Arcturus Club, University Women's Club, and the Fort Morgan Women's Golf Association. She and her husband enjoyed golf, tennis, bicycle riding, bridge clubs, and involvement in many civic activities. Most of all Mrs. Bloedorn was a devoted wife and mother. She introduced her family to many activities including a love for reading and literature, music, theater, dance and gymnastics, sports, and travel. Her young family traveled yearly to the West Coast; they took many side trips on the way, so Mrs. Bloedorn, buried in maps and guide books, helped her family take in the history, geology, culture, and scenery of the surrounding areas. In their middle and later years Mr. and Mrs. Bloedorn enjoyed world travel. Her favorite destination was Hawaii, and it was fortuitous that their youngest daughter married and settled in Kailua-Kona, HI. After Mr. Blodeorn's death in 1996, Mrs. Bloedorn eventually lived there full-time and she became known a "Millie" to her friends and "Nana" to her ohana, the Hawaiian word for family. In Kailua-Kona she was active in Soroptomist International of Kona, in bridge at her final home at the Regency at Hualalai, and she enjoyed many activities with her Hawaiian ohana. The travel continued almost until the end with a reunion of all her children, their families, and most of her nephews and nieces at Disneyland last summer. Mrs. Bloedorn is survived by her children and families, Corliss Anne (Gary) Littlefield of Fort Morgan, and their children Andrew Keown and Kimberly Keown and (her fiancé, Rob Iula), and Kelly and Erin Littlefield, Carole Anne (John) VanGorder of Leland, NC, and their children, Katherine (James) Parker, James (Rachel) Page, Carl, Will, and Chelsie VanGorder, Sally Anne Alapai of Kailua-Kona, HI, and her children, Lehua (Jasmine), Kanoa (Anu) and Kapena, and John Craven (Keith Wenger) Bloedorn of Durham, NC. There are seven great grandchildren. Mrs. Bloedorn was preceded in death by her husband John, an infant son, her parents, her sister, Harriett Craven Davidson, her brother, Earl Craven, and her son-in law, Gordon Alapai. A short memorial service will be held at the Regency at Hualalai in Kailua-Kona, Sunday, May 20, at 10:15 am. A memorial service will be held in Fort Morgan at a later date.
