Mildred R. Walker-Haake, 81, of Wiggins, died Thursday February 1, at her home. She was born March 16, 1942, in Cheyenne, Wyoming to Harold and Ephelia (Solis) VanBeber.

On March 22, 1958, she married Robert W. Walker in Sterling. Robert passed away on January 16, 2003. She subsequently met, and married Mark Haake on September 25, 2008.

Mildred worked for the Wiggins Telephone Association, the Wiggins School District, and Holistic Health in Fort Morgan. She also served on the board of the Wiggins Rural Fire Protection District for many years.

Mildred had many interests. She loved horses and enjoyed traveling. She also spent some time racing a pink '55 Chevy stock car in the Powderpuff division at the I-76 Speedway in Fort Morgan. She enjoyed her family, baking, quilting, and playing cards and board games with her family and friends. She spent evenings working on jigsaw puzzles, and many happy hours tending her flower beds.

Survivors include her husband Mark Haake of Wiggins; two daughters, Tami Walker of Wiggins, and Cheryll (Chris) Clewett of Houston, Texas; two sons, Edward (Ed) Walker of Denver, and Shane (Jennifer) Walker of Wiggins, one sister, Sharon VanBeber of Loveland; six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Her parents and two sisters, Jo Ann McKinzie, and Verna Lott preceded her in death.

An inurnment service will be held for family members at Linn Grove Cemetery, in Greeley on February 8, 2024 at 1 p.m.

A church service will be held at the Wiggins Community Church, at 423 Dickson Street in Wiggins on February 9, 2024 at 11 a.m., followed by a meal at the church for friends and family to share memories and fellowship.
