Surrounded by her loving family, Naomi Irene Wood went to her heavenly home Tuesday evening, January 24, 2017.
She was born on November 24, 1936 to Elmer and Ruby (Gilbaugh) Gerken in Fort Morgan.
Naomi married the love of her life, Dewain Wood, on September 5, 1954 and they raised four girls and four boys.
Naomi loved working outside with Dewain on their ranch located in the Peace Valley area and their dairy in Fort Morgan. As their children grew, Dewain and Naomi started a 4-H Club, "The Little Rascals" and the neighborhood children joined up. Naomi loved watching her children compete at the county fair, showing off the animals they had raised at home.
Naomi enjoyed raising calves, gardening, fishing, having coffee with her friends, and going to the sale barn. She especially loved family get-togethers, these were large and rambunctious, filled with laughter and excitement.
As a lifelong care giver, after her children were grown, Naomi worked with disabled adults for
several years.
Naomi is survived by her children, Val Loose (Dale) of Wiggins, Vaughn Wood of Douglas, WY,
Rhonda Whitney of Baird, NE, Randy Wood (Shawna) of Brush, Carolyn Wood of Fort Morgan, Cindy Cook of Sterling and Shawn Wood (Jessi) of Fort Morgan. She is also survived by her brother, Ed Gerken; and her sister, Becky Whitney, both of Fort Morgan. Naomi has 30 grandchildren, 52 great grandchildren, 1 great-great grandchild and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Dewain; her son, Stuart; and her great granddaughter, Reaghan Chase, as well as her parents and her brother, Bill Gerken.
Funeral services will be Tuesday, January 31st at Trinity Lutheran Church in Fort Morgan at 10AM. Interment will follow in Memory Gardens Cemetery.
Viewing for family and friends will be Monday, January 30th from 4 – 6 PM at the Heer Mortuary in Fort Morgan.
