Nola Marjery
Southard
Nov 4, 1927 — May 11, 2016
Nola Marjery Ashbaugh Southard, 88, of Loveland, CO formerly of Fort Morgan, passed away May 11, 2016 in Loveland.
She was born in 1927 at home on a farm three miles north of Buckingham, CO, the youngest child of Harry Ray and Clara Amelia (Hunt) Ashbaugh. She was raised with five brothers and one sister.
Nola graduated from Buckingham High School and worked at Burkett Photo in Denver, CO as a multigraph operator and printed pictures from film rolls. Later she was employed at Spears Studio in Fort Morgan, CO developing rolls of film. She met Walter Estel (Jack) Southard the day after he got out of the Army after WWII. In 1946 they were married in Atwood, KS. Longtime residents of Fort Morgan, Jack and Nola farmed, raised cattle, and milked cows. Nola was a member of the First Christian Church in Fort Morgan.
After Jack's death in 1987, Nola continued to live on the South West Street family farm in Fort Morgan, which now is home to the First Baptist Church and a new Middle School. Due to the decline in her physical abilities, Nola moved to Brookdale Marianna Butte Assisted Living in Loveland, CO where she resided since June 2014. Nola's greatest joy was her family and extended family, family reunions, and some memorable trips she shared with her children and their spouses.
Nola was a generous and caring person and will long be remembered as being a positive and determined individual with a sharp wit and a great sense of humor.
Left to cherish her memory are two daughters, Charlotte (Robert) Hron of Virginia Beach, VA, and Diana Mantey (Carl Roedel) of Boulder, CO, and a son, Ervin (Kari) Southard of Loveland, CO. Her brother, Kenneth Ashbaugh of Kalamazoo, MI, also survives.
She was preceded in death by her husband Jack, a son, Alan Southard and a grandson, Mark Mantey.
She leaves a wonderful legacy to her remaining grandsons, Michael (Sissi) Hron, Dean (Laura) Hron and Thomas (Alison) Hron, all of Virginia Beach, VA, her great grandchildren, Bradyn Mantey of Brighton, CO, PFC Riley Mantey of Fort Riley, KS, Anaiah Mantey of Littleton, CO, McKenna Mantey of Westminster, CO, Wesley and Bennet Hron of Virginia Beach VA, one great-great grandson, five step-grandchildren, seven step-great grandchildren, and many loving nephews, nieces and friends.
Funeral Services will be Thursday, May 19, 2016 at 10:30 a.m. at the First Christian Church in Fort Morgan. Interment will follow in Memory Gardens.
Memorial gifts may be made to Honor Flight Northern Colorado at P.O. Box 363, Ault, CO 80610-0363.
