Nolan P. "Tuffy" Manning, 92, longtime Brush resident, passed away early Friday, April 29, 2011. He was born July 1, 1918, in Imperial, NE to Lester & Edna Manning. Tuffy attended a country school in Hayes County, Nebraska. He married Virginia Smith on August 18, 1941, in Trenton, NE. The Manning family lived in and around Wauneta, NE. On April 11, 1945, Tuffy enlisted in the US Army. He was discharged on July 28, 1946 and returned to Nebraska to be with his wife and daughter. On February 5, 1956, the Manning family moved to Brush where Tuffy was employed with Dorn Construction for a year. On July 1, 1957, he took a job with the City of Brush, where he was employed for 32 years. He worked in all departments of the City. His last position was the operator of the Brush Waste Water Plant. On June 30, 1989, he retired at the age of 72. Nolan was buried with the Lord in baptism and added to the Church of Christ on August 22, 1971. He was also a member of the American Legion Sagebrush Post and VFW #3551. Tuffy was a good husband, father and grandfather. He is survived by his daughters, Donna Kramer and her husband LeRoy of Brush and Joy Rolyston of Wichita, Kansas; 4 grandchildren, Candy (Ron) Barbey, LeRoy (Cindy) Kramer Jr., Randy (Teresa) Kramer, and Betty (Richard) Quinn; 11 great grandchildren, Chandra, Trina, Morgan, Zack, Stacey, Breanna, Nicole, Jennifer, Brittani, Carissa, and Brooks and 6 great-great grandchildren, Kristena, Riley, Isac, Keagan, Precilla, and Bently. He was preceded in death by his wife, Virginia, 5 brothers, 1 sister, and his parents. Funeral services will be Tuesday, May 3, 2011, at 11:00 AM at the Heer & Dahl Mortuary Chapel in Brush. Interment will follow in the Brush Memorial Cemetery. Visitation will be at the Heer & Dahl Mortuary on Monday from 5 – 7 PM.
