Norbert L. "Shorty" Wilson, 87, passed away Tuesday, August 9, 2016, at the North Colorado Medical Center in Greeley. He was born October 3, 1928, in Killdeer, ND, to Norbert E. & Ruby O. Wilson.

Following graduation from high school, Shorty joined the U.S. Army where he served until his honorable discharge in 1947. In 1950, Shorty was recalled into the U.S. Army and served until his honorable discharge in 1951. Shorty was very proud of his military service. He continued to honor his fellow veterans by serving with the Military Funeral Honors Guard for many years.

On July 30, 1954, Shorty married Eileen Schuette in Bismarck, ND. He worked as a heavy equipment operator on many construction sites. In 1977 the Wilson's moved to Brush where Shorty worked in the construction of the Pawnee Power Plant.

Shorty was proud to be a life member of the American Legion and the VFW. He was also a member of the International Order of Operating Engineers Union #9.

Shorty loved to visit with people. He especially enjoyed joking with everyone he met. He had a wonderful sense of humor and enjoyed life.

Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Eileen of Brush; son Gary (Sharon) Wilson of Fort Morgan; daughters, Roxan (Gerry) Sianez of Riverdale, UT, and Colleen Weigand of Fort Collins. Additionally, survivors include a sister Joann Curry of Columbus, OH, brother Roger Wilson of Garrison, ND; 5 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son-in-law and his parents.

Those attending the memorial service to be held Saturday, August 13, 2016, at 11:00 a.m. at the Heer Mortuary Chapel in Brush, are asked to dress casual. Military honors by the U.S. Army Honor Guard, Colorado Patriot Guard, and the Brush VFW / American Legion Honor Guard will follow the service. The service will conclude at the Mortuary. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be given to the Honor Flight Northern Colorado, in care of the Heer Mortuary & Crematory, who is entrusted with the arrangements.
