Obituary

Olga Ruby, 97, longtime Brush / Hillrose area resident, passed away Monday, September 12, 2011, at the East Morgan County Hospital. She was born September 6, 1914, in Colorado City, CO, to John & Elizabeth Steyaert. The Steyaert family moved to the Brush community when Olga was less than a year old. They farmed south of Brush. On February 9, 1936, Olga married Austin Ruby in Brush. The Ruby family continued to live near Brush and later moved to their farm near Hillrose. Olga was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Brush. She loved to quilt and sew and was a member of the Segelke Quilting Club in Hillrose for many years. Olga made beautiful quilts for all her children and grandchildren. She enjoyed gardening and canning vegetables and fruit. Her favorite time was spent with her family. Survivors include her children, Janice (and the late Gerald) McFarland of Fort Morgan; Maureen (Chuck) Bobo of Denver; Cheryl (Gordan) Koran of San Clemente, CA; and Wayne (Kathy) Ruby of Moscow, ID; her daughter-in-law, Dorothy Ruby of Spokane, WA; 10 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren, and 4 great - great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Austin who died in 1998; 1 son, Nelson, and 1 daughter, Patricia Ann; 1 brother, Paul Steyaert; 1 sister, Gloria LaFaver; and 1 great granddaughter, Kayla Fiscus. Olga will be dearly missed by all her family. Mass of Christian Burial will be Saturday, September 17, at 10:00 AM at St. Mary's Catholic Church, 340 Stanford Street in Brush. Interment will follow in the Brush Memorial Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday from 5 – 7 PM at the Heer & Dahl Mortuary in Brush with the Rosary & Vigil service beginning at 7:00 PM.
