Obituary

Otto Dwaine Kuhlmann, 88, was called home to be with his Lord and Savior, Thursday, January 9, 2025, at his home at The Greeley Place in Greeley, CO.

He was born to Elmer and Nora Kuhlmann on July 28, 1936, in Smith County, Kansas, where he was raised on the farm with his sister. Otto married his high school sweetheart, Audrey Stevens, on October 23, 1955.

The couple spent two years in Germany while Otto served in the Army, returning to Kansas with their first daughter to farm.  After the birth of their second daughter, the family moved to Colorado, where their family continued to grow. Otto worked as a welder for many years, helping his father establish a welding shop in Wiggins, Colorado. He also worked in the oil field, the logging industry with his son-in law Grant, and built snowplow blades for several state highway departments alongside his daughter Beverly. Otto and Audrey also owned and managed several rental properties and storage units.

Otto cherished spending time with family and friends and enjoyed any occasion that brought people together. Celebrations were often highlighted by his homemade, hand cranked ice cream. Otto and Audrey enjoyed camping, fishing and playing board games, especially their favorite - Bump. Otto crafted many homemade Bump boards for family and friends. They also had a second home in Kansas, near relatives, where they held family gatherings whenever possible. Otto and Audrey loved to travel, with one of most memorable trips being to Alaska with his parents. In retirement, they spent summers in Platoro, CO where they ran a lodge and fishing cabins.

Otto is survived by his children and their spouses, Kathy (Mike) Hope of Beloit, KS; Tami DiBello and Beverly (Grant) Dowdell both of Ft. Morgan, CO; Twila (Russ) Mylander of Cheyenne, WY; Michael (Jill) Kuhlmann of Greeley, CO; as well as 13 grandchildren and 24 great grandchildren.

Otto is proceeded in death by his wife Audrey of 65 ½ years, his parents, Elmer and Nora Kuhlmann and his sister Marvel Lehr.
