Obituary

Paul (Palomon) Sanchez was born on May 25, 1935, in Rodarte, New Mexico to Jose Rumaldo Sanchez and Isabelita Chacon Sanchez. He had fond memories of working when he was a boy as a shepherd of a flock of sheep for a neighbor. He made the trip up the mountain early every morning with the flock and four furry dog helpers for a day of grazing, then back down the mountain for the night, only to repeat the process the next day. He remembered hearing coyotes in the distance and would snuggle with the sheep while the dogs would chase the danger away.

Benita Alice Sanchez was born on February 14, 1933, in Rodarte, New Mexico to Jose Flavio and Nicasia Medina Sanchez. As a child she was full of energy and loved to climb trees. She had an accident that impacted the rest of her life building her character that would develop into a life of service to others.

Both came from big families. Paul had seven siblings, and Benita eight. In their teen years their families moved to Fort Morgan, Colorado. Paul and Benita fell in love and married on September 25, 1955. Paul worked for Burlington Northern Railroad for 38 years until he retired. Benita stayed home and raised their five children. Their family grew to include 13 grandchildren, nine great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild. They celebrated 70 years of marriage in September 2025.

They will be remembered by the many contributions they made through the years to family, friends, church and community using their skills to help wherever needed.  Family and friends knew they could count on them.

They are preceded in death by their parents, 13 siblings; two children, Manuel Sanchez and Abigail Sanchez; and a granddaughter Dr. Charisma Garcia.  Paul is survived by a sister, Josie Chavez; and Benita by a brother, Eli Sanchez. Also they are survived by their children Emma (Pete) Garcia, Paul (Eva) Sanchez, and Rebeca Sanchez; grandchildren  Caleb and Serenity Garcia, Joseph (Shelly), Tema, and Zebadiah Sanchez, Titus (Michelle) and Seth (Kayla) Dominguez, Venessa (David) Calderon, Alexis (Zachary) Martinez, Jacob Sanchez, Charles and Ammisa Douglass; great grandchildren  Isaiah Martinez, Brady and Kaylie Sanchez, Hilario (Shelby) Cordova, Kenan and Harper Dominguez,  Isabel, Matthew, and Olivia Calderon; and great-great grandchild Rosalie Geist.
