Paul James Hergenreter Jr., 63 lifelong area resident, died, Sunday, November 20, 2011 at his home in Ft. Morgan. He had a love for his family and friends and was a patriot for his country. Paul was born December 30, 1947 in Sterling, Colorado to Paul and Pauline (Leachman) Hergenreter. In his youth Paul farmed with his dad south of Ft. Morgan. He enjoyed his horses and pets and was in 4-H and FFA where he received many awards.Paul graduated from Ft. Morgan High School in the class of 1966, where he also met his sweetheart Dee Wilson. He proudly volunteered and served his country in the US Navy Seabees from 1968 until 1970. During this time he was stationed in Da Nang, Viet Nam. Paul returned from the service and married Dee on August 1, 1970 in Fort Morgan. Together they raised two wonderful sons, Mark and Mitch. Paul enjoyed gardening, woodworking, auctions, rodeos, camping, fishing, garage sales and restoring old farm equipment. He especially loved driving his 1965 Chevelle Malibu SS that he bought new when he was a junior in high school and has kept it throughout his life. Paul was skilled in many areas. He worked in construction, farming and woodworking. He also delivered farm equipment at one time. But his greatest success came running his own woodcrafting business. Paul had a wonderful sense of humor and could make everyone around him laugh. . He was a member of St. Helena Catholic Church, the VFW, and the local Elks Lodge. Survivors include his wife Dee, of Ft. Morgan, two sons, Mark Hergenreter and his wife Rachelle of Greeley and Mitch Hergenreter and his wife Angie of Eaton, his mother, Pauline Hergenreter of Ft. Morgan, one brother, Richard Hergenreter of Ft. Morgan, three sisters, Beverly Staples of Pell City, Alabama, Shirley Unrein of Ft. Morgan and Terry Behrends and husband Tony of Ft. Morgan and four grandchildren, Ryan, Hanna, Tyler and Jake Hergenreter. He was preceded in death by his father Paul who died in February of 1999 and his granddaughter Hope who died in 2002. Memorial Services will be Monday, November 28, 2011 at 10:30 am at St. Helena Catholic Church Ft. Morgan. Inurnment will follow in Memory Gardens. Memorial Gifts may be made in Paul's name in care of the Heer & Dahl Mortuary in Ft. Morgan. The Heer & Dahl Mortuary in Ft. Morgan is in charge of the arrangements.
