Paul Eugene Lorensen, 52, passed away Saturday, February 2, 2008, at the Eben Ezer Lutheran Care Center in Brush. He was born August 16, 1955, at the Eben Ezer Lutheran Hospital in Brush, to Robert and Dorothe (Peterson) Lorensen. The Lorensen family moved to Fort Morgan when Paul was two years old. Paul attended school in Fort Morgan and graduated from FMHS in 1973. He attended the University of Colorado on a Boettcher Scholarship. Although he lost his sight in 1976, he received his Bachelors Degree in Molecular, Cellular, and Developmental Biology in 1978, and was given the Van Ek Award for outstanding academic achievement. Paul volunteered in the Amigos de las Americas going to Honduras in 1977, helping to conduct mass inoculations for measles, diphtheria, polio, tetanus, and a form of tuberculosis and to Guatemala in 1978 teaching health care. Paul was employed at C.U. Services to Disabled Students and later, after receiving his teaching certificate, served as homebound teacher in Denver Public Schools. He worked as a teacher and counselor at the Center for the Blind in Colorado, Louisiana, and Alaska. He was an active member of the National Federation of the Blind. Paul enjoyed traveling in the United States, Mexico, South America, and Poland. Before ill health set in, he participated in skiing, rock climbing, river rafting, and fishing. He was a charter member of the Lutheran Church of Our Redeemer. Survivors include his parents, Bob & Dottie Lorensen of Brush; 1 brother, Keith Lorensen, his wife, Jennifer; and 2 nephews, Eric and Carl Lorensen all of Pueblo, CO. A memorial service will be held at the Lutheran Church of Our Redeemer, 1100 W. Platte Avenue in Fort Morgan on Thursday, February 7, 2008, at 10:30 AM. Private inurnment will be in the Brush Memorial Cemetery.
