Phyllis A. Lawler, 56, passed away Tuesday morning in the emergency room of the East Morgan County Hospital in Brush. She was born November 17, 1952, near Brush to Philip & Dorothy Vondy. She graduated from Brush High School in 1970. On November 27, 1971, Phyllis married Thomas M. Lawler in Brush. In 1978, Phyllis joined the US Air Force. During her military career, Phyllis served in Atlus, OK, German, Spain, Turkey, and Biloxi, MS. She was a veteran of the Desert Storm conflict. In 1998, Phyllis retired from the US Air Force as a Master Sergeant. She then worked for JC Penny Company and retired in 2008. In June, 2008, Phyllis and her husband moved back to Brush to be closer to their families. She was a member of the Non-Commissioned Officer Association. Her favorite thing in life was working. She regularly contributed to the Goodwill Industries. Survivors include her husband, Thomas of Brush; 1 son, Terry of Montgomery, AL; her Mother, Dorothy Vondy of Brush; her step-mother, Betty Vondy of Brush; 3 brothers, Harold Vondy & Vic Vondy both of Sterling, CO, and David P. Vondy of Fort Collins, CO; 2 sisters, Esther Beardt of Glendale, AZ, and Gloria Amen of Fort Morgan; 1 step-sister, Susan Bucher of Searcy, AR; 1 step-brother, Bob Compton of Denver, CO; and 1 granddaughter, Emily Ann. She was preceded in death by her Father, Philip Vondy; her Father-in-law, Walter Lawler, 1 sister, Darlene; her brother – in law, Steve Amen, and her sister-in-law Kim D. Vondy. Funeral services will be Monday, February 2, 2009, at 11:00 AM at the Heer Mortuary Chapel in Brush. Interment will follow in the Brush Memorial Cemetery with military honors provided by the US Air Force. Visitation will be at the Heer Mortuary Chapel on Sunday from 1:30 – 3:30 PM.
