Obituary

Rachel Menking, a former long-time resident of Fort Morgan passed away January 21, 2009 in Kootenai Medical Center, Coeur d'Alene, Idaho following a sudden illness. Rachel was born April 11, 1921, in Fort Morgan, Colorado to Jacob and Katherine Schlothauer. Rachel attended Fort Morgan public schools and was a member of the United Methodist Church. Rachel and her husband, Ronald, were married April 18, 1948 in the United Methodist Church in Fort Morgan. Rachel enjoyed activities with her family and being a homemaker. Ron and Rachel moved to Fort Collins, Colorado in 1980 and then to Loveland, Colorado in 1999 where they resided until moving to Hayden, Idaho, in August of 2006. Ron and Rachel celebrated 60 years of marriage in April, 2008. Rachel is survived by her husband Ronald, one daughter and son-in-law, Ronda and John Buck of Coeur d'Alene, Idaho, two sons and daughters-in-law, Rod & Yvette Menking of Loveland, Colorado, Randy, and Cara Menking of Fort Morgan, Colorado, two brothers, Sam Schlothauer of Aurora, Colorado, Henry Schlothauer of Fort Morgan and one sister, Lydia Bostron of Fort Morgan. Other survivors include nine grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Rachel was preceded in death by her parents, five sisters, Marie Fries, Leah (Toni) Weimer, Anne Riffel, Kate Gammel, Millie Elmore,and two brothers Jacob Schlothauer and Dave Schlothauer. A memorial service will be held for Rachel at the United Methodist Church in Fort Morgan at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, February 7, 2009. Inurnment will be in Memory Gardens in Fort Morgan. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Rachel's name to a charity of your choice or Hospice of North Idaho; 9493 N. Government Way, Hayden, ID 83835.
