RALPH LEON AMEN, 85, longtime Fort Morgan resident, died Thursday morning, September 9, 2010 at Sunset Manor in Brush. He was born November 18, 1924 in Atwood to David & Lydia (Miller) Amen. After high school he joined the Army Air Corps and served from August of 1944 until February of 1947 before his honorable discharge. He married Virginia Mae Brunner on June 30, 1947 in Saint Francis, KS. Mr. Amen did dry land farming for a number of years before his partnership in Dependable Plumbing. In 1982 he started his oilfield career as owner of S & R Oilfield Construction. He continued working in that industry until his retirement in 1995. Mr. Amen was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Fort Morgan and the V.F.W. Post 2551, Fort Morgan. He enjoyed woodworking and gardening. He took great pride in his roses and vegetables. Perhaps his favorite pastime was polka dancing with his wife. Mr. Amen is survived by his son, Robert Amen of Fort Morgan; two daughters, Diane Barker of Weldona and Connie Garcia of Lakewood, 7 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Laura Schuppe and Dorothy Collier; three brothers, Harold Amen, Clarence Amen, and Lawrence Amen; his son, Stephen Amen; his wife, Virginia Amen; and his grandson, Tom Barker. A memorial service will be Thursday, September 16th at 10:30 AM at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Fort Morgan. Inurnment will follow in Serenity Falls Columbarium in Fort Morgan. Memorial gifts may be made to Trinity Lutheran Church. The Heer & Dahl Mortuary in Fort Morgan is in charge of arrangements.
