RAMON G. DIAZ, 84, of Fort Morgan, died Sunday morning, February 3, 2007 at the Hospice of Metro Denver Center in Aurora. He was born April 2, 1923 in Edinburg, TX to Ignacio & Refugia (Yanez) Diaz. He married Sara Torres on April 25, 1942 in Monterey, Mexico. The family lived in Denver for a short time before moving to the Fort Morgan area in 1949. Diaz worked for Great Western Sugar Co., Green Brothers Inc., and worked as a farmhand for a short time. His latest job was with Burlington Northern Railroad where he worked until his retirement in 1978. He was a member of Saint Helena Catholic Church in Fort Morgan. He enjoyed playing baseball in his younger years, gardening, spending time with his family, and raising farm animals; especially chickens. He was an avid coin collector. Survivors include eight children; Mary Diaz, Robert Diaz, Sarah Castillo, and Joe Diaz, all of Fort Morgan; "Cookie" Vasquez of Colorado Springs, CO, Raymond Diaz Jr. of Thornton, CO, Rose Diaz of Alma, Michigan, and Benardino Diaz of Loveland; two brothers, Arturo Diaz and Benardino Diaz, both of Mexico; and one sister, Alicia Diaz of Mexico. He is also survived by 27 grandchildren, 49 great grandchildren, and 2 great-great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Sara Diaz; one daughter, Toni Tamburello; two brothers, Jose Diaz and Fedirico Diaz; and one grandson, Jacob Tamburello. Visitation will be Sunday, February 10, 2008 from 4 – 7 PM followed by an evening service at 7:00 PM, at the Heer & Jolliffe Mortuary Chapel in Fort Morgan. Mass of Christian Burial will be Monday, February 11th at 10:30 AM at Saint Helena Catholic Church in Fort Morgan. Interment will follow in Memory Gardens.
