Randolph (Randy) Steven Gettman of Fort Morgan, passed away on January 25, 2021 at the age of 70.  Randy was born to parents Harold "Tubby" and Betty Gettman on March 11, 1950. He graduated from Fort Morgan High School, attended Adams State on an athletic scholarship for baseball from 1968-1972 and was drafted by the Chicago Cubs in the 18th Round in 1972. He spent from 1972-1974 playing with the Cubs & affiliate teams organizations.  He compiled a batting average of .255 with 18 home runs and 106 RBI in his 240-game career.

Randy was an incredibly talented, stand-out athlete to say the least.  He was a 3-time All American, and led the nation with a batting average of .504 in his college baseball years.  He set the Fort Morgan Middle School long jump record in 1964 and still holds the record to this day.  He was inducted into the Adams State Hall of Fame in 2002.  He has a signature Louisville Slugger custom-made bat.

He taught school and coached football, basketball and baseball in 1976, and started his career as a car salesman in Fort Collins in 1977, retiring from a 40+ year career in car sales in 2018.

He married Candy Gettman on July 22, 1995.  He is survived by his wife, Candy Gettman, 3 children, Michael Gettman, Devin Gettman & Nikki Gettman, 2 step-children, Farrah Dobbins & Joshua Jensen, and 10 grandchildren, his siblings David & Judy Gettman, Paula & John Buchanan and Mike & Linda Cowan, and several nieces & nephews.  He was preceded in death by his parents, sister & brother-in-law, Gloria "Jeanne" & Marion Blecha & brother, Harold "Doogie" Gettman.

Randy was a quiet and simple man.  He loved golf, baseball, and TV.  He joined the Mustang Baseball program as a first base and hitting coach in 2010, coaching every season until his death in 2021.  Upon joining the coaching staff, the Mustang Baseball program experienced 10 consecutive years of post-season appearances.  His coaching highlight included a Final Four appearance in 2019, after winning the regional championship in Palisade to proceed to the Final 8, and then defeating Cheyenne Mountain to make the Final Four.  The Final Four appearance was the furthest FM Baseball had ever gone in HS Baseball to date.  As a coach, he was especially talented at developing hitters and facilitating team batting strategy.

Celebration of Life services will be held at Morgan Church of the Nazarene Saturday, January 30 at 1:00 PM and will be livestreamed at https://www.facebook.com/NazChurch330 ​ 5 .  Guests​ are welcome to wear baseball or golf attire, and masks are encouraged at the indoor ceremony.

Following the service, there will be a processional to Legion Baseball Field (approximately 2:00), where we will gather in the outfield to honor Randy at the place he loved best.   A celebratory gathering at the Country Steak Out will be hosted by the family at 3:00 PM following the service.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Mustang Baseball Club at 323 Apache St, Fort Morgan, CO  80701.
