Raoul C.  "R.C." Nelson, 92, passed away Thursday, November 26, 2020,   He was born June 13, 1928, in Omaha, NE to Russell & Ellen Nelson.

R.C. served in the US Army from 1951 until his honorable discharge in  1958.  He married Ruth Smith on September 18, 1955, in Thurman, IA.  R.C. worked for AVCO financial in Sidney, NE before moving to Fort Morgan in 1983.  He came to Fort Morgan to work at the Morgan Federal Savings Bank.  He later worked at the Farmer State Bank in Brush until he retired.

R.C. was a member of the United Methodist Church, VFW #2551, American Legion Post #19; Elks Lodge in Sidney, NE, and the community relations committee at the East Morgan County Hospital in Brush.  R. C. & Ruth enjoyed camping & later purchased their cabin at Lake McConaughy near Ogallala, NE.  While at their cabin they enjoyed fishing, boating, and riding their four-wheeler mule.  R. C. also enjoyed small game hunting.

Survivors include his wife of 65 years Ruth of Fort Morgan; 2 children, Marc and his wife Sandy of Sidney, NE and Cheri and her husband Terry Towne of Castle Rock, CO; 3 grandsons, Jacob Stein, Jordan Towne, and Jesse Nelson; 3 great grandchildren, Sara, Jordan, and Selia; and 1 great grandson, John..  Also by a special family friend, Joe Marx.  He was preceded in death by 1 sister Mitzi and his parents.

A private memorial service will be held Friday, December 4, 2020, at 10:00 AM at the Fort Morgan United Methodist Church.  Inurnment will follow at Serenity Falls Columbarium.  Military honors will be presented at the Columbarium.  The honorary urn bearers will be his three grandsons, Jacob Stein, Jordan Towne, and Jesse Nelson.  Family prefers memorial gifts be given to the Fort Morgan United Methodist Church or to the Hospice of the Plains.
