Obituary

RAYMOND CHARLES SMITH, 91, longtime Fort Morgan resident, died late Wednesday, September 17, 2008 at the Life Care Center in Greeley. He was born December 15, 1916 in Kirwin, KS to Charles Raymond & Nettie Mae (Camp) Smith. He married Lucille Isaac in Kimball, NE on May 26, 1941. Ray farmed, worked at Neil's Service Station in Fort Morgan, and later worked for Morgan County R.E.A. as an appliance repairman for 16 years before his retirement in 1980. After retiring he continued his own business, Ray's Refrigeration. He was a member of the Lutheran Church of Our Redeemer in Fort Morgan. He enjoyed bowling, doing crossword puzzles, going to Meet & Eat, and going to coffee with his friends. Ray is survived by his daughter, Charlene Wells & her husband Dave of Greeley; his grandchildren, Jennifer Sullivan & her husband Jeremy of Missouri Valley, IA, Nichole Green & her husband Tyler of Evans, and Justin Wells & Amanda Pollock of Greeley. He is also survived by his great grandchildren, Morgan Green, Hailey Green, Addison Sullivan, and Allyson Sullivan. He was preceded in death by his wife Lucille who passed away on October 28, 1960, his three sisters; Hazel Lemon, Fleta Ellis, and Wilda Sparks, and his parents. Funeral services will be Monday, September 22nd at 11:00 AM at the Lutheran Church of Our Redeemer, 1100 West Platte Ave. in Fort Morgan. Interment will follow in Riverside Cemetery in Fort Morgan. Memorial donations may be made in Ray's memory at the Lutheran Church of Our Redeemer for Abbey Vannoy's "Peace Corps Partnership Project". Funds received will be used to purchase materials for construction of a kitchen for the Mtimane Primary School located in Swaziland. The Heer Mortuary in Fort Morgan is in charge of the arrangements.
