Obituary

Richard Tony Alonzo, 59, Fort Morgan, passed away Sunday, June 15, 2008, at the Colorado Plain Medical Center. He was born May 20, 1949, in Fort Morgan, to Juan & Juana Alonzo. Following graduation from Fort Morgan High School and while attending college, Richard entered the US Army where he served during the Viet Nam Conflict. After his discharge, Richard married Judy Chavez. That marriage ended in divorce. He later married Phyllis Rivera, May 28, 1997 in Fort Morgan. Richard worked for many years for Northern Colorado Roofing Company. He has lived most all his life in Colorado. Richard was a member of St. Helena Catholic Church. He enjoyed listening to "oldie's" music, was an animal lover and frequently adopted stray pets, and was known as a "handy-man fixer". Survivors include his wife, Phyllis of Fort Morgan; 2 sons, Joe Alonzo of Aurora, CO, and Chris Alonzo of Fort Morgan; 7 sisters, Ethel Martinez, Nancy Araujo, and Lena Alonzo all of Fort Morgan; Ruth Martinez of Brush, Hope Reyez of Greeley, Claire Szczuroki of McAllen, TX, and Esther Pam of Paso Robles, CA; 2 grandchildren and 3 step grandchildren. He was preceded in death by 2 sisters, 2 brothers, and his parents. Rosary & vigil service will be held Thursday at 7 PM at the Heer Mortuary Chapel in Fort Morgan. A funeral mass will be held Friday at 12:00 noon at St. Helena Catholic Church in Fort Morgan. The service will conclude at the church. Visitation will be at the Heer Mortuary on Thursday from 3 – 7 PM.
