Obituary

Richard Wilson Mitchell died peacefully at the Sunset Manor Nursing Home in Brush, CO, on December 11, 2011. Richard was 87. He was born in Brush, CO, to Laura R. Mitchell and Merle M. Mitchell on November 18, 1924. After completing high school in Brush, he graduated from Miami University, Oxford, OH in 1946. Richard served in the Marines during the Korean Conflict and he retired as a colonel. Richard was an avid scholar of history and taught high school in the Denver schools for several years. His happiest years began when he married Patricia Manning Arnold of Denver in 1964. They enjoyed golf, fine dining, collecting art, and traveling the world. Richard and Patti had many close friends in Denver, Ridgway, Ouray, Lahaina, Hawaii, Colorado Springs, and La Quinta, CA. After Patricia's death in 1999, Richard moved to Brush, CO, to be closer to his two brothers. He is survived by his stepchildren, Stephen M. Arnold (Susie)of Montrose, and Patricia A. Tracy of Greeley and his two brothers, Donald M. Mitchell and Gene T. Mitchell (Rosa), both of Brush. He has nine nieces and nephews. His remains will be interred at St. Margaret's Episcopal Church in Palm Desert, CA, beside his loving wife.
