Richard Leroy "Dickie" Williams was born on September 8, 1936 at the family farm north of Snyder, Colorado.  He was the second child and the first-born son to Richard Lewis Williams and Bessie Catharine (Hastings) Williams.  Richard had two brothers; David and Virgil and four sisters; Joyce, Enid, Linda and Cathie.

While in high school, Richard participated in class plays, was on the newspaper staff, annual staff, played basketball, and baseball. He also worked as a farm laborer for Carl "Pokie" Williams, Harvey Green, and Vernie Bruce.  He graduated from Snyder High School in 1954.  In Richard's high school prophecy, he proclaimed he would be a life-long bachelor and own a farm in the Snyder area.  He definitely was a man of his word as that described his life perfectly.

Richard had an innate passion for driving semi-trucks; and directly out of high school he went to work hauling grain.  From 1954 to 1965 he drove for Cox Grain Company in Brush and later Kula Grain in Fort Morgan, Colorado.  In 1965, his father suffered a debilitating stroke and Richard returned home to take over the farm.  Richard proudly raised corn, sugar beets, pinto beans, alfalfa, wheat, and Hereford cattle.  Fall harvest was a special time for him as Cathie and David were there to lend a hand.  He remained on the family farm until November 2019 when poor health forced him to become a resident of Eben Ezer Lutheran Care Center in Brush, CO.

Dickie cherished all of his nieces and nephews.  He could be found with little ones around him; as he had a special and unique way of connecting with children of all ages.  He truly enjoyed teaching nephews, Chris and Matt how to farm and be stewards of the land.   He anticipated summer visits when Enid and Joyce's families were at the farm.  All of his nieces and nephews were in attendance for Uncle Dickie to tease, educate, and spoil.   Summer evenings with Uncle Dickie consisted of home movies, card games, and late night "Gray Wolf" games.  Uncle Dickie patiently taught his nieces and nephews how to set irrigation tubes, ride motorcycles, water ski, watch out for rattlesnakes, drive tractors and trucks, buck bales, drive a stick-shift, shuck corn, dig a ditch, brand cattle, hoe sugar beets, not to pee on an electric fence, catch crawdads from the ditch, but most importantly how to live, laugh and love!

Richard was a member of the Snyder Volunteer Fire Department and the Oddfellows Lodge.  He was an avid card player and participated in monthly pinochle games in the Snyder community.  Richard always had a boat and took joy in family outings at North Sterling reservoir water skiing and fishing. Richard appreciated the value of talking to people.   When conversing with him, you had his full attention and he so loved people stopping in to visit.  After retiring from farming, Richard liked to reload shells, play computer games, and collect model International Harvester tractors.  Richard delighted in cruising around the countryside in his side-by-side ATV.  A special place for he and Cathie to visit was the eagle nest by Vancil Reservoir.  Richard's brothers and sisters held a special place in his heart; even though he wasn't the best at expressing his feelings, he loved each of them dearly.  Richard was a man with a big heart, generous soul with a mischievous smile that could light up a room!  He will be truly missed.

Richard has survived by his sisters; Linda Scott and Cathie Nix of Brush, Colorado.  Brother David Williams of Lewisville, Ohio.  9 nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, sisters; Enid Erie and Joyce Seifert and brother; Virgil Williams.

A memorial ceremony will be held at a later date with burial at the Brush Cemetery in Brush, Colorado.
