Richard L. "Rick" Winger, 57, longtime Brush area resident, passed away suddenly at his home of natural causes. He was born October 2, 1959, in Brush to Thomas L. & Olive Mae Winger.
Rick grew up on the family farm south of Brush and graduated from Brush High School in 1977. He loved playing basketball and football. The team he played on won the state championship when he was a senior.
Rick enjoyed being outside. He loved growing up on the family farm where he hunted pheasants, ice skated, and had fun times with his siblings. Rick was passionate about music, especially playing his guitar. He also played in the Brush High School band while attending school.
In the 1970's the Winger family moved into town. After graduating from high school, Rick moved to Boulder where he worked in the landscaping business. He later worked as a heavy equipment operator and also in the home building construction industry. He built himself a home in Dacono and lived there for several years. He later moved back to Brush and worked on the Winger family farm.
Rick was a fun loving person. He enjoyed laughing and had fun wherever he was.
Survivors include his Mother, Olive Mae Winger of Brush; his Brother-in-Law, John Filkoski of Denver; nieces, Jyllian & Julianne; nephew, Jacob; and cousins, Kent & Celeste Winger, Judy & Ron Byg and Marty & Kathy Silvernail. He was preceded in death by 2 brothers, Tommy John, Brett, sister Susan, and his Father, Tom..
Funeral services will be Friday, July 21, 2017, at 11:00 AM at the Rankin Presbyterian Church in Brush. Interment will follow in the Brush Memorial Cemetery. Visitation will be at the Heer Mortuary in Brush on Thursday from 3 – 5 PM. Family prefers memorial gifts be given to the Rankin Presbyterian Church c/o Heer Mortuary 222 Cameron Street, Brush, CO 80723.
