Obituary

Robert Lee Columbia passed away on December 6, 2024 at the age of 78.  Robert was born in Fort Morgan, Colorado on June 6, 1946 to Loren and Esther (Hosier) Columbia.  He graduated from Fort Morgan High School.

Robert, or as his friends called him, "Hungry," married his sweetheart, Sandy Matchett, in August of 1969, and they started their family in June of 1970 with the birth of their son, Aaron. In 1974, a daughter, Karen, was born. Robert's family was very important to him.  He was a hardworking man, a wonderful father, and a great provider for his family.

In the early years of marriage, Robert worked in the oilfield industry as a roustabout and several other positions on well servicing rigs. He then decided to become an over-the-road truck driver until his retirement. For over 30 years, he drove up and down the highway. He was given many awards for being a safe driver and even received "The Million Mile Award" which recognizes drivers that have driven a million miles without a preventable accident.

Robert really enjoyed watching the Broncos and the Colorado Rockies.  He could often be heard cheering or yelling at the TV while watching. Robert had faced many challenges with his health over the years, but nothing could keep him down. Robert was known by everyone for having a positive outlook on life, and he was an all-around happy man.  He was also quite the comedian, and his laughter was infectious to all those around him.  His beloved grandchildren captured many entertaining videos of him over the years.  Robert was best known for his kind, gentle nature and big heart. Everyone loved Bob.

Robert was preceded in death by his parents, Loren and Esther Columbia; two brothers, Larry Columbia and Tom Columbia, and a brother-in-law, LaVerne (Hoot) Wahlert. and just recently his beloved wife, Sandy.

He is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Aaron and Lainie Columbia of Wiggins, CO; a daughter and son-in-law, Karen and Brian Granberg of Venice, Fl; his grandchildren, Sheldon (Kaelyn) Sees of Venice Fl; Mandy Columbia (Morgan) of Phoenix AZ; Rachel Columbia (Brandon) of Windsor CO; Sheradon (Cameron) Trangenstein of Oceanside CA; Jaide Granberg, and Shayla Granberg of Venice, FL; two sisters, Patricia Whalert of Brush, CO; Linda (Stan) Green of Pueblo CO; one brother, Steve Columbia of Fort Morgan; a sister-in-law, Evelyn Columbia of Fort Morgan; and two brothers-in-law Carl Matchett and Marty (Kris) Matchett of Greeley, CO; as well as several dearly loved nieces and nephews.
