Obituary

Robert "Bob" Weimer was a man of faith who loved the Lord, aviation, farming, and his family. Robert Weimer, 81, of Fort Morgan, Colorado, and lately of Brush, died in his sleep on 18 November 2023.

He was born in 1942 to Adam and Esther Weimer of Wiggins, Colorado. They were Volga Germans whose parents immigrated to farm the Great Plains in America. Bob is survived by his younger brother, Sonny and preceded in death by his older sister, Virginia. Bob attended Wiggins High School before joining his father on the farm. In 1960, Bob joined the army and discovered his love for aviation, serving as a helicopter pilot picking up wounded troops during the Vietnam War. Bob's aviation career continued when he and his wife, Donna, became missionaries with Wycliffe Bible Translators and moved with their family to Papua New Guinea. He remembered his time there as some of the best years of his life.

Bob and Donna met on a blind date while Bob was stationed at Fort Rucker. In short time, the two were married and starting their life together. They were blessed with their first son, Robert, in 1966. Bob heard the news of his first son's birth over the radio while flying over Vietnam. Two years later, Bob and Donna were blessed with their second son, Keith.

Bob is survived by his wife Donna, son Robert and daughter-in-law Diana, and grandchildren Kate, Jake, and Luke, as well as son Keith, daughter-in-law Sharlene, and grandson Brandon. He is also survived by his brother Sonny, sister-in-law Darlene, nieces Nikki Baessler and Toria Neb, nephews Chris Weimer and Mark Weimer, and their families. Bob is known as Popbob to his grandkids, and was a wonderful grandpa. His grandkids treasure memories of air shows, movie nights, walks down Rainbow Bridge at Riverside Park, and trips to the swimming pool.

Bob had an entrepreneurial spirit and always kept himself busy, even long after he officially retired. In addition to farming, and his career in aviation both in the army and as a missionary, Bob drove trucks and owned and operated a car wash in Fort Morgan. He was a gifted mechanic and shared his skills with the community. Many remember him waking up early on a snowy morning to fire up his tractor and shovel out the neighbors' driveways. Bob was always willing to help those in need. He and his wife were beloved members of Life Fellowship in Fort Morgan for many years.

Bob Weimer will always be remembered for his faith and integrity. We could not have asked for a better father, grandfather, and brother in Christ. His memory will live on in the hearts of all who loved him. Bob was a staunch believer, and it is a comfort to his family to know he is with the Lord.

A memorial service will be held on 22 December, 2023 at 10 am at Life Fellowship.
