Obituary

Ronald L. Gronewold of Fort Morgan peacefully left this world on August 2, 2025.

Born February 8, 1943, in Watertown, South Dakota, Ron grew up in communities throughout the Midwest. Early tragedy struck his life when his father, Bernard, was killed in a tractor accident when Ron was a young man. Despite this, Ron persevered, caring for his disabled mother and sister for many years. Ron ultimately landed in Pipestone, Minnesota, where he met his wife, Marlene.

Ron served honorably in the National Guard and earned a degree at Dunwoody College of Technology in Minneapolis. He worked for many years as a land surveyor with the Bureau of Land Management. His career afforded him adventures in North Dakota, Illinois, New Mexico, and rural Colorado. He led BLM's office in Georgetown, Colorado and served with the federal agency's office in Denver. Ron and Marlene raised their three children in Fort Lupton, Colorado.

He later served at the BLM's office in Phoenix, Arizona and worked independently in Minnesota, South Dakota, and Montana. Upon retirement, he settled with his wife in Fort Morgan to be closer to his family.

Ron celebrated life through fishing, camping, woodworking, and gardening. He was a skilled carpenter, auto mechanic, electrician, and all-around self-taught handyman. You could always find him wearing his favorite fishing hat with a pipe in hand.

Ron is preceded in death by his father Bernard "Ben", mother Elizabeth Oleta, sister Lavonne Jean "Jeannie", and brother Elsworth "Al". He is survived by wife Marlene, daughter Laura (Scott) Newman, daughter Jennifer (Chris) Meyers, son Nathanial (Atsuko) Gronewold, and grandchildren Andrea Newman, Taylor Newman, Alyson Meyers, and Maya Meyers.
