Ronald Gene Herbst was born January 4, 1943 to Jacob Jr. & O'Linda (Heberlein) Herbst in Brush, CO and passed away peacefully at home to eternal grace on July 25, 2026 in Fort Morgan, CO. He loved Elvis Presley and we know that he is dancing to Elvis with the love of his life, Carol Herbst (Mercer) for eternity.

Ronald who was also called Ronnie was well known for being the City of Fort Morgan Gas Superintendent. He retired after 35 years. He was a volunteer firefighter for 20 years and was Chief of the Fort Morgan Volunteer Fire Department for two terms of service. In his younger years, you would find him competing in the Colorado State Fire Fighters Association convention tournament races with his team from the Fort Morgan Fire Department.

Ron married the love of his life, Carol Elaine Mercer on July 1, 1962 in Brush, CO. His family was absolutely the light of his eyes. He spent 60 beautiful years with his beautiful wife who preceded him in death on October 2, 2022.

He is survived by his daughters, Kelly Murkins (Derek) and Rhonda Meininger (Dan); his grandchildren, Whitney Peterson (Adam), Sydney Murkins (Zach), Nicole Binnendyk (ArieJan), Chelsea Cervi (Cody), Megan Evans (Oliver); and great granddaughters, Aubrie, Juniper, and Maisy.

No services will be held, as the family wishes to have a private inurnment. Your thoughts and prayers are welcome as he will be very missed.
