Ronald Emil Sand, 84, of Fort Morgan, passed away Thursday morning, July 23, 2015 at his home after battling Leukemia. Ron was born in Brush on July 2, 1931 to Emil Sand and Blanche (Foster) Ragland. He served in the US Navy for four years and he was in the National Guard for seven years. He met and married Guinevere Fly from California in 1953. After Ron's service was complete they moved to Colorado where they started their family and did foster care for 15 years. Ron also worked at the REA as Building Supervisor for 18 years and he owned the Fort Morgan Radio Shack for 23 years. After retiring from the REA, Ron bought and ran the Sand's Motel, later adding the Country Comfort Motel & RV Park. Most recently, he purchased the Sand's Park Terrace Motel, all of which are in Fort Morgan. Ron also owned many rental properties and several commercial properties. He truly enjoyed real estate and business all of his life. Ron has been a very active member in many community clubs, including the Lions, Fort Morgan and Brush Chamber, Tourism, Economic Development, and the City Planning Board. He lived his life with a positive attitude and he loved his family and businesses. Ron was known as the "Dreamer", always planning the next adventure in life. He is survived by his four children, Daniel Sand (Kelly), Edward Sand (DiAnn), all of Fort Morgan, Susan Cook (Todd) of Brush, and Cindy Henshaw (John) of Canyon City. He has 9 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife of 48 years, his parents; his brother, Bob Sand; and his sister, Nellie Wall. Per Ron's request, there will not be a formal memorial service. The family is planning a private service for a later date. The Heer Mortuary in Fort Morgan is handling the cremation arrangements.
