Ruby R. Whitney passed away at the East Morgan County Hospital in Brush on November 4, 2016.
She was born January 16, 1919 in Proctor, Colorado. Her parents were Peter and Elizabeth Ottosen. She married George A Whitney in Chappell, NE on September 23, 1941. They lived in Crook from 1941 until 1963 when they moved to the Gary community South of Brush and then to Brush where she lived until she passed.
Ruby loved to work outdoors in her flower and vegetable garden. Crocheting and sewing were some of her many hobbies. Ruby handmade many of her daughters' clothing. She loved people and enjoyed socializing. Everyone was loved and cared for by Ruby as if they were her own children and family. They were all comfortable in her home. During harvest season on the farm she ensured that the crew was well fed with a delicious homemade meal when they came in from the field.
Ruby belonged to the Gary Community Club and the Rankin Presbyterian Church, where she served as a Deacon and Republican Women.
Ruby was preceded in death by her husband, George, two grandsons, and one son in law. Ruby and George had one son, Lee Whitney and Lynn of Wray; three daughters, Gwen Hein and Jerry of Crook, Bonnie Larsen of Brush, and Georgia Kauffman and Jim of Brush. They have 15 grandchildren, 25 great grandchildren and 12 great, great grandchildren.
Ruby was preceded in death by two sisters and three brothers. She is survived by one brother, William Ottosen of Denver; and two sisters, Dorothy Holcomb of Denver and Thyra Schaefer of Haxtun.
A funeral service will be held at Rankin Presbyterian Church, 420 Clayton Street in Brush on Thursday, November 10th at 10:00 AM. Interment will follow in the Brush Memorial Cemetery.
