Obituary

Rudy V. Contreras, 75, passed away on Sunday, November 7, 2021 at Banner Fort Collins Medical Center.

He was born in Flagstaff, AZ on December 4, 1945 to Pio & Virginia (Villegas) Contreras. Rudy lived in the Fort Morgan area where he and his first wife, Sally raised five children during their 20-year marriage. They were also managers together at Shakey's Pizza in Fort Morgan for a number of years. The Contreras family also lived in the Denver area where Rudy worked at Sigman Meats and was a manager for Colorado Rural Housing. In 1990, Rudy moved to Connecticut, as he always dreamed of living back east. It was there that he met Carol Bequillard and they married on August 18, 1997 in Hawaii. Rudy & Carol lived in Torrington, CT where Rudy began working in the floor covering business. In 2000 he purchased Globe Cleaners , a dry-cleaning business, which he ran until his retirement. Carol passed away in 2016. Eleven months ago, Rudy returned to Fort Morgan to be closer to his family. They recognized these last several months as an amazingly beautiful time to come together as a family, blessed by our Father God.

Rudy was a God fearing man who loved the Lord and was often found praying as he went about his day. He loved sitting in the sun and spending time with the Lord, listening to religious music. Rudy loved to travel, especially flying. He also enjoyed visiting and eating at new and fancy restaurants during his travels. He, himself was a phenomenal cook, especially when it came to Mexican or Italian cuisine. He loved cooking dinner for the entire family, often starting early in the morning and teaching his grandson Christopher his recipes; and he loved taking his grandchildren out to eat whenever he got the chance. Rudy loved playing tennis in his younger years as well but his greatest pastime was simply being with his family.

He is survived by his children, Joseph Contreras of Milliken, Rudy Contreras Jr. (Pam) of Fort Morgan, Mary Felia of Brush, and Gina Contreras (Roger Merrill), and Angel Contreras, all of Fort Morgan; one brother, Pete (Maryelenna) Contreras; and three sisters, Martha Nieto and Mary Gardner, all of Flagstaff and Ercy (Martin) Rodriguez of Mesa Verde; 19 grandchildren, 52 great grandchildren, and 1 great-great grandchild.

Rudy was preceded in death by his wife, Carol Contreras; three brothers, Danny, Benny, and Raymond Contreras; two sisters, Lucy Cordova and Emily Nerbie; and three grandsons, Chance Contreras, Mathew Merrill, and Jonathon Contreras.
