In Loving Memory of Rueben Albert Ewert

Rueben Albert Ewert was born to the Rev. Albert and Rosie (Tieszen) Ewert in Montana on June 30, 1938. He died on March 24, 2025, at the age of 86 after a 26-year battle with Parkinson's Disease and towards the end, Lewy body dementia. When he was ten his family moved to the Bridgewater, SD area. Rueben graduated from the Bridgewater High School in 1956. Rueben joined the U.S. Navy in June of 1956 serving through June 1959 on the USS Forrestal Aircraft Carrier. At the end of his time in the Navy he was stationed in Norfolk, VA and this is where he met the love of his life, Jewel.

Rueben married Jewel R. Hilderbrand on January 17, 1960. They were married for 65 years and had two children. The two of them had many adventures traveling and as entrepreneurs in their work life, taking advantage of many opportunities in several states before settling in Colorado. Rueben started out in Colorado managing the Red Ram Bar in Georgetown and then transferred to the Red Ram on Larimer Square in downtown Denver. From there he worked for a company in Denver as a supervisor where he went to several states opening stores in the chain called Tastee Freeze/Big T. In 1975 he opened a Tastee Freeze in Brush on Edison Street, decided he liked the town, bought the store, and moved his family to Brush.

Rueben really enjoyed living in Brush and opened multiple business during his many years there. In his time in Brush with his wife Jewel, they owned and operated a fast-food restaurant (Tastee Freeze), J & R Ewert's Clothing Store, The Brush Trading Post, Radio Shack Electronics, opened the Rock "N' Roll-er Rink in Sterling, CO.,  and The Brush Roller Rink that they owned and operated for 35 years and sold in 2018 at the age of 80.

If you knew Rueben, you knew he didn't say a lot, but when he did, you wanted to listen to what he had to say. He had tremendous FAITH in GOD and was a very intelligent, inventive, generous man who cared about his family, the youth of our community, and the future of Morgan County.

Rueben is survived by his wife Jewel Ewert, Daughters Cherie Plank and Sandra (Jerry) Bills. Grandkids Austin (Amanda) Grippin; Alexis (Jessica) Bills-Bustillos and Cali Bills. One Great Granddaughter, Kai Bills-Bustillos. Brother, Amos (Donna) Ewert and Sister Priscilla (Gene) Applewick and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents Rev. Albert and Rosie Ewert, infant sister Delilah Ewert, sister and brother-in-law Ruth and David Glanzer, and parents -in-law W.W. and Nettie Hilderbrand.

Per his wishes there is no service and in leu of flowers and cards the family suggests a donation be given in Rueben's name to the Parkinson's Foundation – www.parkinson.org or Rueben said, "Go Roller Skating!!"
