Obituary

Ruth E. Brokate, 88, passed away Tuesday evening, August 11, 2009, at the Eben Ezer Lutheran Care Center in Brush. She was born June 21, 1921, in Cleveland, OH. On October 18, 1939, Ruth married Howard H. Brokate Sr. in Ashland, KY. While living in Port Clinton, OH, Ruth was one of the founders of a civic theater group called "The Playmakers". This group was started in 1946 and continues to perform today. She enjoyed writing poetry and was a rock hound. Ruth worked for several years as a test proctor at Fort Bliss, TX. Since moving to Brush in 2003, Ruth has been a member of All Saints Lutheran Church at Eben Ezer. Survivors include 2 daughters, Judith Peters of Denver and Barbara Aldrich of Scottsdale, AZ; 1 brother, Verl of Fosteria, OH; 4 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren, 3 sisters-in-law, and 1 brother-in-law. She was preceded in death by her husband, son, Howard Brokate Jr., 6 brothers & sisters and her parents. A memorial service will be held Saturday, August 15, 2009, at 2:30 PM at the All Saints Lutheran Church in Brush. Concluding services and inurnment will be Rest Lawn Memorial Park in El Paso, TX. The cremation arrangements were entrusted to the Heer & Dahl Mortuaries. Friends who wish may make memorial gifts to the Eben Ezer Lutheran Care Center Foundation c/o Heer & Dahl Mortuary.
