Ruth Katherine Hergenreter, 95, a longtime area resident, passed away Saturday, November 10, 2018 at the Eben Ezer Lutheran Care Center. She was born September 10, 1923 in Logans Corner, Colorado to Conrad and Katharina (Krum) Amen.
Ruth married John Hergenreter on May 22, 1944 in Sterling Colorado when he was home on furlough from the Army. They drove a 36 Ford across country to California where John was stationed. When they returned to Sterling Colorado after being discharged from the Army they started their life long career in farming/ranching.
Ruth continued to be a homemaker, making kids clothes, canning, gardening and getting the family to church every Sunday. Vacation each summer centered around taking a trip to the mountains and fishing. Ruth belonged to a Pinochle club with friends for over 50 years. She also started quilting in the 70s and was a member of Calico Quilters in Morgan County. Ruth was an avid baker and pie was her specialty.
After retirement from farming, Ruth spent time with children and grandchildren. She enjoyed traveling to Nashville with her daughters, Grand Junction every summer to visit daughter Cheryl and then to Michigan for fishing and site seeing.
Survivors include; son, Duane and his wife Carole of Snyder, daughters; Connie Staley and her husband, Bob of Ft. Morgan, Cheryl Ellegood and her husband Steve of Fenton, Michigan, Judy Edson and her husband Jim of Brush, sisters Betty Robinette of Sterling and Hazel Weber of Wakeeney Kansas. She has 10 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great-grandchildren. She was preceeded in death by her spouse John, a son, David, her parents, three sisters and 3 brothers.
There will be visitation on Thursday, November 15, 2018, from 5 until 6:30 pm at the Heer Mortuary in Brush followed by a Rosary Service beginning at 6:30 pm.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held Friday, November 16, 2018 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church, 340 Stanford, in Brush. Interment will be in the Riverside Cemetery in Fort Morgan.
