Ruth Nelson, 91, passed away Sunday, September 29th, 2024.

She was born July 4th, 1933, in Clarinda, Iowa to Dr. Alton and Elsa Smith.  Her father passed away when she was very young, and she was raised by her mother Elsa and stepfather Carl King on a farm in Iowa.  After graduating valedictorian, she went to work for Mutual of Omaha. Ruth married Raoul (R.C.) Nelson on September 18th,1955 in Thurman Iowa.  They moved to Sidney, Nebraska soon after and then moved to Ft. Morgan, Colorado in 1985.  Ruth worked at South Ward elementary school in Sidney Nebraska as a secretary, and at Green Acres Elementary in Ft. Morgan, Colorado as secretary until she retired.

Ruth and R.C.  Enjoyed traveling and camping & later purchased a cabin on Lake McConaughy near Ogallala Nebraska where they spent summer's boating, fishing, and riding their 4-wheel mule.  She loved nature and animals.

She is survived by her two children, Marc Nelson & his wife Sandy Nelson of Sidney Nebraska and Cheri Towne & her husband Terry Towne of Castle Rock, Colorado; three grandsons, Jacob Stein of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Jordan Towne of Castle Rock, Colorado, and Jesse Nelson of Lodgepole, Nebraska; three great granddaughters, Sara (Micah) Hunley, Jordan Ann Stein and Selia Stein.  Two great great grandsons, John and Ezruh and her sister, Altonia Taylor.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, RC Nelson; two sisters, Kathy Reed and Carlene Ingram.

A private service will be held Thursday, October 3rd, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. at the Fort Morgan United Methodist Church. Inurnment will follow in Serenity Falls Columbarium. The honorary urn bearers will be her three grandsons, Jacob Stein, Jordan Towne, and Jesse Nelson.
