Ruth Helen Segelke, 79, passed away on May 22, 2015 at Eben Ezer Lutheran Care Center in Brush, CO. Ruth was born November 23, 1935 in San Pedro, CA to Henry J. Wiebe and Agnes Shaw Edwick Wiebe. Her father was in the U.S. Navy during Ruth's youth, so the family lived in many places during his years of service, including California, Alaska and Missouri. Ruth graduated from High School in South Gate, California, in 1953. After graduation, Ruth moved to Sterling, CO where she took a job as a secretary for the City of Sterling. During this time she roomed with her cousin, Shirley, and a lifelong friendship was born. In April of 1954, she met Everett Segelke at a square dance in Sterling. They were married April 24, 1955, one year to the day from their first date. They were happily married almost 60 years when Everett was called home to heaven, on February 23, 2015. Ruth and Everett enjoyed those years of rearing their children together and farming and ranching. Ruth is survived by three daughters, Kim (Vic) Vondy, of Sterling, CO; Arlene (Darrell) Smith, of Joes, CO; Naomi (Pat) James, of Carr, CO; two sons, Chris of Brush, CO; and Glen of Atwood, CO; six grandchildren Dave (Brenda) Vondy, of Fort Collins, CO; Meredith (Adam)Potgieter, of Brush, CO; Owen, Everett and Henry Devlin, of Terry, MT; Sophie Segelke of Fort Morgan, CO; four great grandchildren Faith, Brody, Brock, Quinly Vondy and many beloved nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Everett, her parents, her brother, Henry, her sister, Mary and one daughter, Susan. Ruth was a very gentle and happy person. She loved ranching with her husband, spending time with her children and grandchildren, gardening, writing poetry, reading, quilting, and canning. She had many fond memories of her childhood and loved to share the stories of the past with her loved ones. She loved the simplicity of country life growing up in Missouri, walking to the school, longtime friendships with classmates, riding horses, the wonders of nature, attending church and "singin's", life lessons learned from living with her Grandma and Aunt, visits from her Colorado cousins and the carefree nature of growing up in the Ozarks in the 1940's. Ruth loved to sing and knew the words to many old songs and could burst into song at the mere mention of a title. She and Everett loved to attend Bluegrass Festivals with friends and spent many summer weekends doing so. From an early age, Ruth's faith was very important to her, sharing her love for her Savior with her children. She was a member of Shepherd of the Plains Lutheran Church in Fort Morgan, CO. She served many years with the Ladies Aid and also as a Sunday school teacher. She was devoted to her family and was an amazing role model for those around her. She was always thinking of others and what she could do for them. Services will be held Wednesday, May 27 at 11:00 a.m. at Shepherd of the Plains Lutheran Church in Fort Morgan, CO. Interment will be at the Merino Cemetary at 1:00. One of Ruth's favorite ways of celebrating with family was to host what she affectionately called a "Pasture Picnic", so her family will host a picnic style lunch following the interment at the cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Shepherd of the Plains Lutheran Church in Fort Morgan, CO.
