Obituary

Sally Holtz (Pate)(Johnson) was born in Padroni, CO on December 29th, 1934 to Alva and Alice Johnson and passed away July 9th, 2023 at Eben Ezer Lutheran Care Center in Brush, CO. With family at her side. Sally grew up in Padroni with her sister Shirley and loved to play the piano, going to school, and playing with the family dog, blonde. Sally was very outgoing and loved by many. She was even voted May Queen by her peers in the Padroni school where she attended school until she graduated in 1952.

On September 20th 1953, Sally married Hubert (Gene) Pate and then they both moved to Brush, CO. They had a daughter Deena Pate born March 30th, 1954 and then adopted a son Dallas Pate born in 1959. They owned and operated the well known Pate-n-Place restaurant in Brush CO for many years until its closing due to Gene's failing health. Her husband, Gene, passed away May 3rd 1994. Sally then met and married Darrell Holtz on November 22nd 1997. Sally and Darrell also made a home in Brush CO until Darrell passed away June 6th, 2012. In her later years Sally resided at Eben Ezer Lutheran Care Center in Brush, CO.

Throughout her life, Sally was a Christian who attended different churches but, during the last 25 years of her life, was a member of Brush Church of the Nazarene. Sally was a woman of strong faith who loved her church and attended every Sunday until her health no longer allowed her to do so. She found comfort in her relationship with God. She was a well known member of the community and was known to always lend a helping hand to those in need. Everyone that knew Sally said she was always happy and had a smile on her face. She even wanted to start a no more long faces club at Eben Ezer! Her smile would light up a room and always saw the good in everything. Sally also had a great sense of humor and you could usually see her laughing, never a dull moment with Sally! She was a wife, mother, Aunt, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great grandmother and was a nurturing soul. She loved to take care of her family and was the role model for so many. Seeing her grandkids was the light of her life and she was proud of every person in her family.

Sally is preceded in death by her father Alva D. Johnson, mother Alice Johnson (Robinette), Husband Hubert (Gene) Pate. Husband Darrell Holtz, and son Dallas Pate.

She is survived by her sister Shirley Andersen of Ft. Collins, her Daughter Deena Pate of Brush, Granddaughters Julie Howell (Pate) of Ft. Morgan and Brita Pate of Abilene, Texas.  Her great-grandchildren Lauren (Tyler) McMullen of Greeley, Trenton Howell of Lafayette, and Sadee (Vinny) Baxton of Ft. Morgan, her great-great grandsons Jaxson and Mason McMullen of Greeley, and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and cousins.
