SANDRA KAY MASSENGALE, 61, lifelong area resident, died Tuesday morning, December 26, 2013 in the Emergency Room at Colorado Plains Medical Center in Fort Morgan. She was born April 2, 1952 in Brush, CO to Ercil & Vera (McHamlet) Johnson. She attended area schools and graduated from Brush High School. Sandra married David Paul Massengale on January 1, 1972 in Brush. Sandra worked for the Northeast Area on Aging for a number of years and then as Assistant Administrator for Hillcrest/Fremont Apartments in Fort Morgan. Sandra was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary. She enjoyed being outdoors, spending time in her flower garden and fishing. She was a happy, compassionate people person and she especially enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. She is survived by her husband, David Paul Massengale; her two sons, David Massengale (and Kim Hazlett) and Christopher Massengale (and Tanya Blehm), all of Fort Morgan; three brothers, Norman Johnson of California, Bart Johnson of Eugene, OR, and David Johnson of Rolla, MO; three sisters, LaVonne Cridlebaugh of Winslow, AZ, Debbie Ficco of Brush, and Bonnie Weinman of Phillipsburg, KS. Sandra is also survived by her grandchildren, Amber Massengale and Brooklyn Massengale; her step grandchildren, Jacob Hazlett and Jordyn Hazlett, and numerous nieces and nephews. Sandra was preceded in death by her parents; her brother, Billy Ray Johnson; and her sister, Shirley Grosshans. Visitation will be from 4 - 6 Pm on Monday, December 30th at the Heer Mortuary Chapel in Fort Morgan. Funeral services will be Tuesday, December 31st at 10:00 AM, also at the chapel.
