It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Scott Boyett.  Scott was born on June 23, 1937 in Harrisburg, Illinois to Clyde ("Toots") Boyett and June Herron- Boyett.  Scott was 87 years old when he passed away on Monday, February 10, 2025 with his 2 sons by his side.

Scott was perhaps best known for his ability to tell a great story.  He could make the ordinary sound extraordinary, but there was little that was ordinary about his life.  Scott was an airman in the U S Air Force, where he was deeply influenced by his work as the base Chaplain's Assistant.  After fulfilling his two-year service enlistment, he joined a monastic order and spent the next four years immersed in the life of a Catholic monk.  Before taking his final vows and joining the ranks of the priesthood, he chose another path and embarked on a mining engineering career which took him to many places in the world including Israel, Columbia, Brazil, Australia, Uzbekistan, and finally China.

Scott was passionate about early Jazz music.  Those who ever got him started on that subject learned quickly that they better have a lot of time before bringing up anything related to music ever again.  He was an avid reader and was often found sitting with a book in one hand and a coffee in the other.  He also enjoyed fishing, politics, and his most recently acquired hobby of Tai Chi.  He was fiercely independent, riding his three-wheeled ebike anywhere he wanted to go in his signature ski goggles and orange safety vest.  He was an early riser, and his daily stops included McDonalds, the Senior Center, Edwards Market, Walmart or Walgreens, Star Athletic Club, the Fort Morgan Humane Society, and Steiner Sils.  Sometimes he made it to all of them before many people ate lunch.  He loved his cats, feeding the birds, and his occasional bus trips to any casino.

There was a time in his life that Scott enjoyed nothing more than happy hour and (let's call it a "generous sip") of Scotch, so have a sip of whatever suits your taste and raise a glass to Scott and all who have returned to eternal star shine.

Scott is survived by his daughter, Jennifer, his son Loren (Sue), his son Clyde Curtiss affectionately known as CC, grandchildren Loren and Kristina and several great grandchildren.

A celebration of Scott's life will be held at the Gene Doty Senior Center in Fort Morgan on Saturday, March 8, 2025, from 4 - 6 pm.
