Obituary

On November 7, 2024, long-time New Raymer resident, Sharon Kay Fiscus, was called home. Sharon was born August 31,1962, to Gerald and Janice McFarland. She grew up in Fort Morgan and graduated from Fort Morgan High School. She worked hard to put herself through beauty school, leading to her long and very successful career as a beautician. Sharon met Rex Fiscus of New Raymer, and after several years of dating, they wedded on October 3, 1987. Their first-born child, Kayla Renae, was introduced to the world on June 23, 1991, but unfortunately passed while still in infancy. They brought their second daughter Jessica Dawn into the world on January 18, 1994.

Sharon was a dedicated wife and mother and had a strong faith. She helped Rex on the family cattle ranch and juggled being a mom, contributing family member, beautician, and active community member. Sharon wore many hats over the years and worked many different jobs. From working at the New Raymer Post Office, assisting in the kitchen at Prairie School, helping the Town of Raymer with board meetings and their town water, just to name a few. However, her dream job was to do hair, and she did it well. Although Sharon was much more than a hairdresser. She would become a cherished friend and family member to many of her clients and coworkers. She always had a big smile and a welcoming warmth when you sat in her chair. She would offer a listening ear, wise advice, and great conversation. Sharon made everyone feel at home and never knew a stranger. There wasn't ever a harder working or more committed woman than Sharon.

As much as she enjoyed being a hairdresser and a rock for her friends and the community, Sharon's true passion was motherhood, and her devotion was to Jessica. They were incredibly close. She was always there for her daughter throughout her schooling, helping with fundraisers, homework, and late nights of washing sports jerseys. Beyond school, Sharon continued to inspire Jessica and teach her important life lessons that Jessica will use to share her mother's memory over her lifetime. Sharon always supported her daughter and loved her more than life. Being a loving mom was her ultimate calling and was the absolute best at it.

Sharon was taken from us far too soon, but God must have needed her more. She was always the best mom, wife, daughter, sister and friend but overall, the most genuine and pure human being. The world would be a better place if there were more people like her in it. She will be so greatly missed by all that knew her. She is preceded in death by her father, Gerald Dean McFarland, and daughter, Kayla Renae Fiscus. Sharon is survived by her daughter, Jessica McNatt and son-in-law, Sam McNatt of New Raymer, mother, Janice McFarland of Fort Morgan, sisters, Rose (Barry) Anderson of Fort Morgan and Mary (Leroy) Dilka of Wiggins, loving nieces and nephews, as well as aunts, uncles, and many cousins.

The family requests that instead of honoring Sharon with flowers, please donate to the Sharon Fiscus Memorial Scholarship Fund. The family will award a scholarship in Sharon's memory to a graduating senior from Prairie High School that is pursuing a trade school.

A celebration of life will be held Friday, November 22, 2024, at 1:00 p.m., in the gymnasium of Prairie High School in New Raymer, Colorado. Graveside services will be for family only at the New Raymer Cemetery later that afternoon.
