Obituary

Shirley Harned, 90, died Tuesday, June 11, 2013 at the Colorado Plains Medical Center in Fort Morgan. Shirley was born July 10, 1922 to Gus and Sadie Rudeen in Albin, WY. She graduated from Hawk Springs, WY High School in 1939. She married Harry E. Harned on February 14, 1942 in Cheyenne, WY. Their first son, Harry Arthur was born in September 1942. Shortly after his birth, Shirley's husband left to serve in the Navy for three years. After the war, Harry and Shirley and son moved to Fort Morgan where twin daughters, Joyce and Jean and daughter Virginia were born. In 1947, Shirley and her family moved to Saint Francis, KS where they owned and operated the Harned bakery for ten years. Another son, Glen and daughter Mary were born there. Then in 1956, they moved their bakery to the Fort Morgan Shopping Center. Shirley retired from the family business in 1997. Her biggest joy was her family. She spent many hours sewing for them. Her sewing projects included quilts made for her children and grandchildren. She also loved to read, to travel with her siblings and walking. Survivors include, her six children, Harry Harned of Fort Morgan, Jean Costello of Cheyenne, WY, Joyce Preston (Dave) of Casper, WY, Virginia Shaver (Hobert) of Fort Morgan, Glen Harned (Tanya) of Brush, Mary Gahagen (Kim) of Wiggins, Shirley is survived by 15 grandchildren and 23 great grandchildren, sisters, Peg Sheahan (Dick) of Golden, Betty Prouty (Floyd) of Arvada, Dorothy Coen of Ramona, CA and 1 brother Jack Rudeen of Cupertino, CA. She was preceded in death by her husband, Harry and 1 brother, Lawrence Rudeen and her parents. A Memorial Service will be held on Friday, June 14, 2013 at 2:00 PM at the United Methodist Church in Fort Morgan. Inurnment will be private. Family requests memorial gifts to be made to the United Methodist Church, C/O Heer Mortuary.
