Obituary

On March 21st, 2018, after a long struggle with failing health, Shirley Ann Phillips, 72, passed away quietly at the North Colorado Medical Center with her family by her side. A native of Colorado and longtime resident of Greeley as well as the oldest of three, Shirley was born in Denver on March 4, 1946 to parents Jerry, Sr. and Colleen McCreery (née Martin). She grew up in Ft. Morgan and graduated from Ft. Morgan High School in 1964. After a year spent at a business college on the Front Range, Shirley joined the workforce, building a storied resume that boasted such various occupations as a secretary for the Ft. Morgan Extension Office, assembly line work at the Hach Company in Loveland, and shoe sales at Sears in Greeley. On March 14, 1975, in Ft. Morgan's Methodist Church, Shirley married Paul Phillips, the love of her life. Throughout her lifetime, Shirley dealt with many serious health issues, overcoming polio and rheumatic fever as a child, scoliosis and Marfan Syndrome later on, and finally kidney failure and other associated health complications. Despite these many tribulations, Shirley always had a zeal for life and nowhere did that zeal express itself more fully than in the deep love she had for her husband, Paul, and the many pets they had throughout their years. Whether it was black powder shoots and mountain man rendezvous in the Rockies, Sturgis Rallies and Black Hill Runs in S. Dakota, or simple nights at home in Greeley watching a Broncos or a Nuggets game, Shirley and Paul always did it together. In her leisurely time, you could often see Shirley's long, pretty painted nails dancing over puzzle pieces or flashing in rhythm to her counted cross-stitch or her crochet. If your conversations with her took an impertinent turn, you might have been somewhat taken aback when Shirley's sassy side came to the fore, often in the form of a mischievous "Bite me!" rejoinder and a big laugh. In the end, perhaps it was her nephew who summed Shirley up best, saying simply, "She was happy." Shirley will be remembered fondly as a loving wife, sister, aunt, cousin, and friend.

Shirley is survived by her husband, Paul Phillips, and their beloved cat, Maggie. Shirley is also survived by her younger sister, Diann Larson, and Diann's eldest son, Tate Larson, and Linda Reding, and their children, Jake Reding, Chase Reding, and Adrianne Larson, as well as Diann's youngest son, Casey Larson, and his wife, Andrea Larson, and their children Brennon Larson, Kyle Larson, Kendall Larson, and young Cameron Larson. Shirley is also survived by her sister-in-law, Heidi McCreery, and Heidi's oldest child, Sierra McCreery, and younger son, Cameron McCreery, and his wife, Mickaela McCreery, and their young sons, Maverick McCreery and Gunnar McCreery. Furthermore, Shirley is survived by her aunt Eleanor and numerous cousins.

Shirley was preceded in death by her parents, her maternal uncle, John Martin, Jr., and her younger brother, Jerry McCreery, Jr.

Funeral services will be Tuesday, March 27, 2018 at 10:30 AM at Heer Mortuary in Ft. Morgan, CO. Cremation and interment will follow at the Riverside Cemetery at a later date.
