Shirley Mae Unrein, 68, lifelong area resident, died unexpectedly Wednesday, September 25, 2013 at her home in Fort Morgan. Shirley Mae was born February 18th, 1945 in Sterling, Colorado to Paul and Pauline (Leachman) Hergenreter. In her youth Shirley Mae grew up on farms both from Sterling and Fort Morgan. She was a member of the 4-H club and had a love for horses. Shirley Mae attended school in Sterling. She married Larry Unrein on April 24, 1965 in Fort Morgan, Colorado and together they raised four children. She graduated from the Fort Morgan Community College where she received her CNA in nursing. Shirley Mae was a member of the Saint Helena's Catholic Church in Fort Morgan. She loved spending time in the garden, sitting by the comfort of her fireplace and she loved opening her home for all occasions. Her love of cooking was enjoyed by all. The most valued time was spent with her kids and grandchildren. Shirley Mae was a care giver at heart, working the OB unit at the Colorado Plains Medical Center in Fort Morgan, Colorado.
