Philip Spencer Lockwood, formerly of Ft. Morgan, passed away on Saturday, March 13, 2021, at the Sterling Living Center in Sterling, Colorado, following a long illness.  He was born September 9, 1938, in Fort Morgan, the son of Philip and Marian Spencer Lockwood.

Spencer graduated from Wray High School with the class of 1956 then attended the University of Colorado receiving his Masters Degree in Music Education.  Following his graduation he joined the Air Force serving with the NORAD Command Band from 1963-67. After discharge he served on the faculty of The University of South Florida in Tampa where he also performed with the Florida Gulf Coast Symphony Orchestra.  When a service-related disability interfered with his ability to perform he returned to Colorado to pursue his dream of becoming a published writer.  His love of music and literature were reflected in his employment history which included Montel's Music Center, the Fort Morgan Public Library and the Book Nook.  He also worked in health care as a medical records clerk for his brother-in-law, Bruce R. Overturf M.D.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a nephew, Scott Overturf and brother-in-law Dr. Overturf.  Survivors include his sister, Anne Overturf, of Fort Morgan; a niece, Teri Sieg (Tim) of Eaton; two nephews, Dan Overturf and Kellie Overturf of Yuma and Steve Overturf of Fort Morgan; nieces and nephews, Aaron (Ashley) Overturf of Fleming, Randi (Lance) Meyer of Grand Junction, Tyler (Ann) Sieg of Sterling, Trent (Carly) Sieg of Las Vegas, NV, Tarynn Sieg (Austin Bown) of Fort Collins and Joshua Overturf of Fort Morgan.  There are 8 great-nieces and nephews.  The staff at the Sterling Living Center became close members of his family during his time of residence with them.

Cremation arrangements have been handled by Heer Mortuary.  Inurnment and a family service will be held at the Grandview Cemetery in Wray at a later date.
