Stanley LaVerne Whitney, 74, longtime area resident, died Wednesday, December 21, 2016 at the North Colorado Medical Center in Greeley.

He was born July 19, 1942 in Goodrich to Frank and Ina (Lusk) Whitney.

He graduated from Fort Morgan High School in 1960.

Stanley served his country in the United States Army and was in Viet Nam from 1964 until 1965.

He married Rebecca Ann Gerken on November 19, 1966. They had just celebrated their 50th Anniversary.

Stanley was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church in Fort Morgan.

He was a master welder and a master carpenter, and enjoyed being a farmer. He taught his children and grandchildren about farm animals, welding and all the other important things that go with running a farm.  He was also a man that loved to tell stories.

Survivors include, his wife Rebecca of Fort Morgan, sons, Brian Whitney (Janie) of Fort Morgan, and Robert Whitney, (Dawn) of Fort Morgan, daughters, Wanda Blake (Troy) of Brush, and Cheryl Brindisi (Scott) of Fort Morgan, sisters, Twila Clark (Jim) of Forestville, Wisconsin, Esther Phillips of Spring, Texas, and Maryanne Johnson (Paul) of Fort Morgan, sister-in-law, Mary Whitney of Fort Morgan, two brothers, Wayne Whitney of Bayard, Nebraska, Ronald Whitney (Barbara) of MI, and grandchildren, Elizabeth Whitney, Jacob Whitney, Seth Whitney, Justin Marsh, Bailey Whitney, Cory Whitney, Brooke Blake, Wyatt Blake, Cody Wright, Tucker Wright, Jasmine Brindisi, and Kelsi Schrum.

Stanley was preceded in death by a grandson, Austin Wright, son of Cheryl Brindisi, his brother, Delbert Whitney, and his parents.

Funeral Services will be Wednesday, December 28, 2016 at 10:30 am at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Fort Morgan. Interment will follow in Memory Gardens.
