Steve Treadway, 97, longtime Brush resident, passed away Monday, December 7, 2020, at the East Morgan County Hospital. Clyde Stephen Treadway was born August 11, 1923, in Beardstown, IL to Edwin Burdette & Olga Lillian (Long)Treadway.
Steve graduated from Beardstown High School in 1941. On August 16, 1944, Steve joined the US Navy and was honorably discharged on July 11, 1946. Steve moved to the Brush community in the mid 1960's to manage the Weisbart Feedlots. He was a partner/co-owner of D & S Farms with Warren "Doc" Watrous. He was also an investor in the Akron Downs Horse Racing in Akron, CO, Morgan Mills, Inc. in Fort Morgan, and the Brush Beef Company.
Steve and Carole Belle DeForest, of Bismarck, North Dakota, were married on December 18, 1981, in Franklin, North Carolina.
Steve served on several Boards/Councils, including the Lower South Platte Water Conservancy District, East Morgan County Hospital District (1978-1986), Brush City Council (1994-2002), Mayor of Brush (2002 -2006), Brush Rodeo Association for over 50 years, the Masons, Brush Rotary, Ducks Unlimited, and American Legion.
Survivors include his wife Carole of Brush; 4 children Stephanie Hobrock of Virginia, IL, Jeanne Treadway of Dixon, New Mexico, Kathy (Larry) Hannapel of Woodland Park, CO, and Tyler (Juliana) Treadway of Rancho Santa Margarita, CA; 2 sisters, Lois White and Phyllis Taylor both of Beardstown, IL; Seven grandchildren; Scott Hobrock, Travis Rock, Samantha and Stacy Hannapel, and Brady, Gwendolyn and Rhett Treadway; 3 great grandchildren, Lydia Hobrock, Elania & Bryston Rock. He was preceded in death by 1 son, Robert Stephen Treadway; 3 sisters, Maude Swan, Mary Herron and Ellen Chris Anderson and his parents.
No formal funeral service is planned at this time. A service is tentatively planned for next Summer at Treadway Lake. Cremation arrangements have been entrusted to the Heer Mortuary & Crematory. Memorial contributions may be made to the Brush Rodeo Scholarship Foundation C/O of Heer Mortuary.
