Thea Mae Silz, 92, lifelong area resident, joined her husband Heinz Nicholas Silz in their heavenly home Saturday, June 5, 2021. She passed away peacefully at home in Fort Morgan. Thea was born August 12, 1928 in Orchard, Colorado to Ted and Hazel (Barnes) Groves.
Heinz and Thea Mae Groves eloped and were married on December 2, 1948 in Raton, New Mexico. They were together for more than six decades and had six children.
She was a longtime member of the Trinity Lutheran Church in Fort Morgan.
She taught school in a one-room schoolhouse in her younger years. Later in life, Thea and Heinie owned and operated a produce company west of Fort Morgan for many years. Heinies Market was eventually relocated to Wheat Ridge Colorado and has been operating for 60 years. This family-owned business involved long hours and provided jobs for family members as it still does to this day. Family was the heart and soul for Thea and she loved celebrating holidays with her family and friends.
Thea is survived by daughters, Sheila Monroe, (Larry) of Hemphill, Texas, and Janet Montel, (Jeff), of Divide, Colorado, sons, Heinz Silz, (Cheryl) of Golden, Martin Silz, (Becky), of Fort Morgan, and Daniel Silz, of Golden, daughter-in-law Sue Silz, 25 grandchildren and 45 great grandchildren. Thea is also survived by seven of her siblings Dean Groves (Ruby) of Orchard, Thora Gardner (Don) of Weldona, Wanda Knapp (Dale) of Fort Morgan, Ellen Padilla of Fort Morgan, Jerry Groves (Sandi) of Orchard, Sharon Ann Reyman (Dude), and Susie Montel (Tim) both of Fort Morgan.
She is preceded in death by her husband Heinz N. Silz, her son Nicholas J. Silz and brothers James "Sonny" Groves and Theodore Raymond (Teddy Ray) Groves and her parents Ted and Hazel (Barnes) Groves.
There will be a visitation on Thursday, June 17 th from 4 PM until 6 PM at the Heer Mortuary in Fort Morgan. Funeral Services will be Friday, June 18 th at 10:30 AM at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Fort Morgan. Services will also be live streamed. Interment will follow in Memory Gardens. A lunch will follow in the Parish Hall at Trinity Lutheran Church.
