Thelma Muriel (Sailsbery) Whittington died in Fort Morgan, CO, on Monday, February 4, 2008, about noon. Thelma was born on April 24, 1914, on the Sailsbery homestead north of Weldona, to Bemine D. and Eleanora (Lamons) Sailsbery, the third child in their home. She graduated from Fort Morgan High School in 1931. On September 17, 1941 she married John James (Jack) Whittington in Sidney, NE. Thelma and Jack had a farming and ranching operation north of Fort Morgan on the Wildcat Creek until his death in 1964. She was a member of the Fort Morgan Retired School Employees Association, the Church of the Nazarene and a member of the Wildcat Extension Club for over 31 years. She worked at Baker Central School as a cafeteria employee for over 20 years. She enjoyed volunteering for hospice and in the school district for several years. She was a resident of Valley View Villa at the time of her death. Thelma enjoyed reading, cooking, baking and traveling in her earlier years. She had enjoyed traveling throughout the United States as well as a trip to the British Isles and Europe in 1976. Her faith in Christ was the center of her life and she found great joy in her children, grandchildren and the great grandchildren. Thelma is survived by two daughters, Marilyn Whittington Sauer and her husband Gerald L. Sauer of Canyon, TX, and Carolyn Whittington Wade and her husband, Rev. Kenneth W. Wade of Kericho, Kenya, East Africa, as well as two grandsons, Rev. Kenny Wade and his wife, Debra, of Nampa, ID, and Christopher Wade of Nairobi, Kenya, East Africa. Three great grandchildren, Emily Ann, Parker Kenneth and Braydon Kyler Wade of Nampa, ID, also survive. Mrs. Whittington is survived by three brothers, A.D. (Art) of Lakewood, CO, Robert L. of Chico, CA, and Richard K. of Fort Morgan. Three sisters survive Frances S. Kelley of Greeley, CO, Phyllis Gueswel of Edgewood, NM, and Doris Kennedy of Spring Valley, CA, as well as numerous nieces and nephews, including a great niece, Gayle (Ferguson) Steffen of Fort Morgan. She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, two brothers, Bennie & Edward, and one sister, Laoma Mitchell, and an infant sister, Opal. Visitation will be at the Heer and Jolliffe Mortuary from 4 p.m. until 6 p.m. on Monday February 11. The service will be held at Heer and Jolliffe Mortuary at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, February 12, with the committal following at Riverside Cemetery.
