Obituary

Thomas J. Deganhart, 66, lifelong area resident, passed away unexpectedly Sunday, April 25, 2021, at his home in Weldona.

Tom was born December 29, 1954 in Sterling to John & Elizabeth "Babe" (Carstens) Deganhart. He attended Weldon Valley School where he excelled in FFA and even received a National FFA award. Tom's passion for farming began at an early age, renting his first farm at the age of fifteen.

On February 1, 1975, Tom married Donna Wilde in Fort Morgan. They raised their family in the Weldona area where Tom ranched and farmed for his whole life.

Tom was a member of Saint Helena's Catholic Church in Fort Morgan. He was also very active on many boards and in various agriculture related activities throughout his life, including the Weldon Valley Ditch Board, the Great Western Sugar Board of Directors, and Wiggins Co-op Board of Directors. He was also a charter member of the Weldon Valley Young Farmers in his youth, a member of the Weldon Valley Booster Club, and he served on the Weldon Valley School Board from 1996 until 2004. Tom jokingly referred to farming as his hobby, he had a passion for cooking and baking, but perhaps his greatest love was his grandchildren and his family.

Tom is survived by his wife, Donna Deganhart; his five children, Virginia Deganhart Dunbabin (Tom) of Hermosa Beach, CA; Kevin Deganhart (Katie) of Brighton; Jillian Deganhart and Logan Deganhart, both of Weldona, and Libby Deganhart (David Lienhoop) of Denver; and his seven beloved grandchildren, Avery, John, Ellie, Franklin, August, Ruby, and Cash. He is also survived by his brother, John Deganhart (Debbi) of Harrison, NE; his sister, Mary Deganhart of Ridgeway, and his sister-in-law, Kim Deganhart of Weldona.

He was preceded in death by his parents, John & Babe Deganhart; his brothers, Richard Deganhart and Jim Deganhart; and his brother-in-law, Bill Steele.
