We regretfully announce the passing of Thomas Clive Newland (Tom, T.C.), 56 of Thornton, CO. Tom passed away on December 17, 2021. His loss was unexpected and both family and friends are deeply saddened.

Tom was born May 26, 1965, to loving parents William Newland and Donna Sharon (Newland) Wardell in Englewood, Colorado. Tom attended Brush High School and was passionate about sports and music. He excelled at football and basketball and played bass guitar in a band with his friends.

After graduating from Brush High School and having been awarded a four-year football scholarship to Colorado State University, he received his B.S. in Industrial Science Technology Education. Later he completed a M.S. Sport Administration degree from the University of Northern Colorado. He also received the Western Athletic Scholar Athlete Award.

After college he pursued a career teaching science, technology, and industrial arts woodworking in Colorado and Nevada for 30 years.  His educational philosophy was that every child has the potential to succeed, and he strove to help each student reach their goals by providing resources and support necessary for success, while holding himself accountable for student performance. He sought to create an environment of dedication, self-discipline, and cooperation.

Coaching sports was also a passion of Tom's and he held various positions in football, track & field, softball, and basketball. He sought to provide athleticism and life skills to his student and athletes. He also volunteered for the Special Olympics in honor of his sister Jeri.

He furthered his musical interest and learned to play the Ukulele for family and friends. His Ukulele and singing performances were regularly enjoyed by residents and staff at Eben Ezer Nursing Home in Brush, CO.

Tom married Catherine whom he cherished dearly and who remained at his side until he expired. He also gained a large extended and loving family who adored him.

Tom was a loving son, husband, brother, uncle, cousin, friend, teacher, and coach. He was passionate about professional football, major league baseball, golf, hiking and many other interests. His presence is greatly missed, and his loss deeply felt.

Tom is predeceased by his stepfather Robert, mother Donna Sharon Wardell, and sister Tami. He is survived by his wife Catherine, father William, stepmother Pamela, sister Jeri, brother Ryan and sister-in-law Cheryl, stepsister Loni, stepsister Amy, and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, nephews, and nieces.

Services will be held at Brush Memorial Cemetery 1401 Mill Street, Brush, CO 80723 on December 30 th at 12:00PM.
