Obituary

Thor Johnson: Children's Pastor, mentor of boys and men, archery enthusiast and instructor, Royal Ranger leader and trainer, former employee at Fresh Foods, guest speaker at Brush Museum's Sack Lunch Program, aspiring author, storyteller, puppeteer, and historical reenactor went peacefully to be with the Lord on Sunday morning, September 18 after battling metastatic lung cancer for three months.

He was born to Maurine and Edward Johnson in Denver in 1952.  As an adult moved to Minnesota where he raised his family with Leslie, his wife of 49 years.  He was a wonderful father who cherished his three daughters, Jennifer Laverty, Jessica Johnson and Jocelyn Hannan, and his sons-in-law, Chad Laverty and Tyler Hannan. He thoroughly enjoyed making mischief with his four grandchildren, Gabriella Hannan (15), Sophia Laverty (12), Aoife Hannan (11) and Sawyer Laverty (11).   He will also be missed by his sister, Tanis Doyle, her husband John, and his brother, Tod Johnson and his nephews, nieces and their children.

He was known for his faithfulness and devotion to his family and his God.  He was the family historian and remembered all the important activities, names and dates.  He was known for his "ministry of first in line" at any   potluck and as a friend to all.  Thor never met a stranger.  He participated in solitaire tournaments with his family and was a whiz at trivia and brain teasers.  He was always ready with a bad joke or pun and kept his family and friends entertained with stories and anecdotes.  He loved the Broncos and the Minnesota Twins.  He enjoyed throwing tomahawks and knives, gardening, camping, traveling, and teaching kids.

His Celebration of Life will be held at Harvest Assembly of God, 1012 Eaton Street in Brush, Colorado on Monday, September 26 th at 11:00 a.m.  Interment will immediately follow at the Brush Memorial Cemetery. A time of fellowship will then be held at the church.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Royal Rangers International at http://s1.ag.org/thorjohnson
