Thomas W. Mitchell, 67, of Orchard, CO, succumbed to his long battle of 3 years with cancer, at home where he was surrounded by his loving family.

Tom was born in Ames, IA in 1950. As a child his family moved to LeMars, IA where he attended Gehlen High School and went on to Junior College to play football. Tom married Stella, the love of his life, in 1974, in Sioux City, IA. Tom raised his children in Nebraska until he moved to Morgan County in 1980. Tom loved vacationing with his wife, spending time with his family, hunting, fishing, golfing, shooting, and most recently riding his most prized possession his Harley Davidson.

Tom had a great love for his church, St. Francis, Weldona, CO, where he spent many hours and most recently became a 4th Degree Knight of Knights of Columbus. Tom spent many years working in the beef industry for Cargill and Swift as a transportation manager and most recently worked in the oilfield industry for CTAP where he was in charge of receiving and returns, among many other duties.

Toms is survived by his wife Stella, step-mother Phyllis, daughters Teri and Glenda, his grandchildren Annah and her spouse James, Alexa, Joshua, Andrew and his significant other Ashton, Arrick, Christofer and his spouse Kendra, Jimmy and one beautiful great-granddaughter Makenna. He is also survived by 4 sisters Diane, Jackie and her spouse Roger, Michelle and her spouse Randy, and Marcia. He is preceded in death by his mother Lois and father Thomas, his step-son James and two brother -in-laws Gene and Bill.

Tom was a loving, caring, compassionate, giving, generous, kind man and was loved by many in his community. He fought hard every day and believed that you had to work hard for the things you love in life.  To his family Tom was a warrior and will continue to be our Angel.

Services will be held at St. Helena's Church, March 11, 2017, Fort Morgan, Co at 10am with a Rosary being held at 9am.

We would like to thank the great staff at University Hospital and the BMT clinic for all of their care, compassion, love, and support during this ultimate battle. We would like to give a special thanks to his doctors Clay Smith and Peter Forsberg for helping us fight and letting us have our spouse, dad, grandpa, great-grandpa, brother, and friend for as long as possible.  God Bless.
